Passenger Name Record (PNR) or Passenger Name Record is a unique 10-digit number that is created when a passenger books a ticket. It is created regardless of the status of the user. Whether your ticket has been confirmed or is currently on WL or RAC, the PNR number will be generated and is unique for each ticket.
On the top left-hand side of your train ticket, you can find your 10 digit unique PNR number and it is also stored at the time of generation in Indian Railways along with all the passenger information and the name of the travel and coach, number, etc.
After PNR Number was adopted in air travel industry, it was also implemented in railways successfully as well.
Passenger Name Records make the whole process smooth and efficient for both the rail service and passengers, especially passengers, as they can check many things about their coach and their journey just by finding out the status of their Passenger Name Record.
The following passenger information is stored in PNR Number:
- Personal information of passengers such as age, date of birth, sex, phone number and email address.
- Passenger travel details such as ticket number, name and number of the coach, seat number, source and destination station, location preferences, status of the ticket, class of travel and mode of payment.
